The Commission of Inquiry into specific matters relating to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has today invited public submissions.

The Commission’s Chair, the Honourable Tony Fitzgerald AC QC, said the Commission invites interested persons to provide written submission which relate to the scope of the inquiry.

“We encourage those providing a submission to visit the Commission’s website for further information about the process,” Commissioner Fitzgerald said.

“Those intending to make a submission should ensure their information and material are within the parameters of the Commission’s terms of reference which is also available on the Commission’s website.

“Submissions will be accepted until 28 March 2022 and can be provided by email.”

Commissioner Fitzgerald said the Commission intended to publish submissions on its website unless the submission was determined to be confidential or contained irrelevant or defamatory material.

The Commission of Inquiry commenced on 7 February as a recommendation from the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee’s inquiry into the CCC’s investigation of former councillors of Logan City Council and related matters.

Under the terms of reference, the Commission has been established to inquire, report and make recommendations with respect to the adequacy and appropriateness of:

  • the structure of the CCC in relation to use of seconded police officers
  • legislation, procedures, practices and processes relating to the charging and prosecution of criminal offences for serious crime and corruption in the context of CCC investigations
  • section 49 of the Crime and Corruption Act 2001.

The Commission’s report is due to be provided to the Honourable the Premier and Minister for the Olympics and the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Women and for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence by 9 August 2022.
